Welcome to a virtual book club designed specifically for technical women. Global Tech Women selects books requested by the community on topics of interest for women around the world and provides regular meet-ups for us to gather virtually at convenient hours, network and learn from one another. Our fifth Book Club selection, Inner Critic Inner Success by Stacey Sargent identifies and provides comprehensive solutions for a common challenge facing women in leadership, the Imposter Syndrome. A woman's inability to internalize their success often leaves them with the notion that at any minute they will be found out, that they are in fact, a fraud. They tell others (and themselves) their success is a result of good timing or luck. Women around the globe identify with this very real problem. Prior to this book, there have been few concrete approaches to solving the Imposter Syndrome short of coaching, making lists of your accomplishments, and telling yourself you are worth it with the hope it will eventually "sink in". But even the most accomplished women continue to fight the Imposter Syndrome on a regular basis. Stacey Sargent's approach breaks down these disbeliefs by identifying the type and source of this internal dialog. By identifying what messages we are harboring allows us to break through the corresponding emotions and negative talk into real positive breakthroughs making us more confident, productive and capable of reaching our full potential. We are fortunate to have Stacey join us for our meet-up to be held on December 6th at 9am PST/12pm EST/9:30pm IST. You don't want to miss this opportunity to look at the Imposter Syndrome in a meaningful way and create a plan to make it a thing of the past. DO YOU HAVE IMPOSTER SYNDROME OR ARE YOU ACTUALLY QUALIFIED FOR YOUR JOB? (Fast Company, Nov 1 2013, Drake Baer)
IF YOU'RE READING THIS, YOU'RE PROBABLY HIGH-ACHIEVING. AND IF YOU'RE HIGH-ACHIEVING, YOU PROBABLY EXPERIENCE IMPOSTER SYNDROME. SEE HOW THIS WORKS?
If you haven't heard about it--or possibly experienced it--before, imposter syndrome is that feeling where, deep down, you can't believe that you deserve the job, title, or career that you've landed.

UC Berkeley Called. They Said They Made a Mistake (Global Tech Women Blog, Nov 1 2013, Deanna Kosaraju)
When I went back to school at the age of 37 I couldn't believe UC Berkeley accepted me as a student. In fact, it was a running joke in our tiny apartment in student family housing. I would ask my 14 year-old son (at the time) if anyone had called and he would tell me, you guessed it, "UC Berkeley called. They said they made a mistake and you don't belong here." We would laugh at our running joke but the reality was I was a fish out of water. I was older, with a 2-year old daughter and 2 older sons. I had been in the workforce for 20 years, and everyone around me felt more in control, smarter and much more accomplished in their youth.
