Impostor Syndrome in Women
Divya Vellanki, VMware Session length: 30 minutes Impostor Syndrome is a psychological phenomenon in which people despite external evidence of their competence, remain convinced that they are frauds and do not deserve the success they have achieved. Success is attributed to luck. This feeling is not unique to one group but it is common in high achievers as people are left on their own, the competition is intense, and there’s not much of a mentor system. Self-esteem, Laziness, Downplaying cost of inaction, Overgeneralization (Taking a single negative effect as an infinite spiral of defeat) are some of the reasons why one may not be aware of this self-deception. My session would summarize my view on how or why women are or may be subjected to Impostor syndrome in their phase of life and what they can do to curb this syndrome. |

Woman in Technology with Gender Equality
Deepika Gupta, VMware Session length: 30 minutes According to the findings of the Harvey Nash CIO survey, just about 9% of all Chief Information Officers (CIOs) are women. More than a quarter of IT firms don’t have any woman in their technical teams. It’s a glaring disparity, but it’s very real. There are obviously very few females at the top in the Information Technology industry. That’s why it came as a huge surprise to a lot of people when it was announced that Marissa Mayer would be the next CEO of Yahoo Inc. Surprisingly, it seems like the Indian story is vastly different. More and more women are not just coming out of their bedrooms and kitchens, but a lot of them are now key decision makers as well. Many are even leading the show in several IT companies. |

Modern Scaling Options for Batch Processing
Suseella Panguluri, Paypal Session length: 1 Hour The objective of this presentation is to make the audience aware of the available scaling options as per JSR352 standards. Present the shortcomings of the existing traditionally practiced scaling options and the need to adopt to the modern approaches. Explain the relative advantages of the modern options and the benefits they bring in compared to the older approaches. Traditionally the options followed for scaling batch processing are - Vertically scaling the batch server by adding more number of processes Or Horizontally scaling by dividing the data into several partitions. But there are several shortcomings of the existing scaling options like maintenance of data, state full programming, etc. and JSR352 guidelines came to the rescue. Modern ways of Spring based remote chunking or remote partitioning or Akka showed significant improvement in terms of restartability, maintenance and processing speed of huge amount of data. In this presentation I will deep dive through the modern scalable options – remote chunking, remote partitioning and Akka/Scala. |

How ICT's Can Help Prevent Violence Against Women
Servane Mouazan, The Womanity Foundation Ann Demarle, Champlain College Emergent Media Centre Nancy Glass, Johns Hopkins School of Nursing Alex Hache, Tactical Tech Collective Hera Hussain, Chayn Jac Sm Kee, Association for Progressive Communications Session length: 1 Hour One in every four women will experience domestic violence at the hands of a partner in their lifetime. Women aged 15–44, across all cultures, are more at risk of rape and other acts of violence, than cancer, malaria, motor accidents, or acts of war, according to the World Bank. The root cause of violence against women (VAW) is gender inequality, leading to unequal power relationships. The Womanity Foundation’s Award for the Prevention of Violence Against Women was developed in 2013 and supports collaboration between organisations seeking to prevent gender-based violence, and aims to break down barriers that such organisations face. The Award helps an Innovation Partner that has developed an already successful approach to prevent VAW to increase their reach; whilst their designated Scale-Up Partner is receiving support to adapt and deliver that project in their own location. The partnership lasts for three years. In May 2016, the Womanity Award will be given to two partners who harness ICT to prevent violence against women. These technologies might include phone apps, video games, urban mapping, internet security training, internet TV, feminist servers, and e-learning platforms, among others. Simultaneously, The Womanity Foundation is launching the ICT for Womanity collaborative network, a peer-to-peer group that connects existing “Tech for Gender” projects, that use these technologies to tackle VAW. This network will foster partnership and learning opportunities. Through this virtual session, we hope to introduce some of the innovations in the field, encourage practitioners to join the movement. Together we are activating a collaborative group that will act a safe space to exchange information and knowledge. Our hope is for this network to collect, analyse and share data to assess the effectiveness of ICT solutions that address women’s safety. |

Local Content Key Enabler for Oil and Gas Projects in Emerging Markets
Mireille Toulekima, MT Energy Resources Session length: 1 hour In the last decade, the development of Local Content has been driven by International Oil Companies and involved a passive government role. To date, this model has not managed to fully achieve globally competitive local capabilities or establish thriving industries in developing and emerging hydrocarbon-rich states. It is primarily due to the fact that initiatives led by International Oil Companies come with business and risk considerations and are limited by the boundaries of each company’s resources. In parallel, in recent years, there has been a significant rise in focus by National Oil Companies on their procurement process as an effective tool for national economic sustainability. In line with this premise, in order to unlock the long term development promise of Local Content, National Oil Companies must adopt a truly holistic vision. The past experiences of National Oil Companies in markets ranging from Brazil and Indonesia to Kazakhstan, Malaysia and Nigeria suggest that a well-defined, holistic and effective method can help achieve the full economic potential of Local Content. Such a strategy must answer questions along two fundamental dimensions: the optimization of Local Content targets and the definition of strategic enablers. |

Automated Testing of Print Data without Printing
Pushpalatha K R, Hewlett Packard PPS India Operations Pvt Ltd Session length: 10 minutes HP ePrint System is a cloud based web service which enables anyone with an Internet-enabled device to print documents, photos by rendering any document entering into the system into a printable format and then sends to the corresponding printer for printing. It is the rendering engine component of the cloud where the document gets exposed so as to be able to be converted into a printable format, the most common format being PCL3GUI. Most of the HP Inkjet and Photosmart Printers accept PCL3GUI commands in order to process a print job. ePrint supports several features. Rendering features are hard to test as it consumes more time to ensure that all print features and value added content are working correctly as per designed. Manual verification is required to make a judgment whether or not the printed output is correct by visually comparing the output on paper to the document within the printing application or comparing to a printed master file. This paper discusses an automated process that eliminates all the manual testing, human errors and time without having to actually print it. |

Internet of Things, Transactions and Security
Vartika Agrawal, VMware Shwetha Lakshman Rao, VMware Session length: 45 minutes Internet of things is emerging. Low cost microcontrollers and microprocessors are becoming available from multiple vendors. Many of these have integrated communication interfaces like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. However, the current model of Edge-Gateway-Cloud is very constrained. As more and more devices are interconnected and send or receive data over the network, it becomes important to protect the data from security vulnerabilities. Focus of the work is to provide confidentiality and integrity of data originated from an IoT device and sent over the network to the cloud. The paper proposes elimination of the intermediary devices like mobiles that are currently used for the transfer of data generated by IoT devices over HTTPS. The aim is to provide direct HTTPS connection between IoT devices and cloud. Study has been done to identify feasibility of communication over TLS 1.2. The Helix SDK offers a generalized platform for communication with the cloud. In domains like defense, healthcare, it is very crucial to secure the data generated from the device. Defense is one of the major domains where companies are working on building prototypes using IoT. The data generated from devices is very crucial and confidential. The data can range from identifying an unknown object to change in temperature or snowfall. Based on this data, important decisions may have to be taken that may be a wide impact. If this data is manipulated by an intruder, it may have serious implications. We leverage the fact that the amount of encryption per computing strength matters more than the amount of encryption by itself. The code has been optimized so as to use minimum amount of RAM and other resources during runtime. The Helix SDK provides simple methods like Publish, Subscribe and Connect in order to push data to IoT platform deployed on vCA or any other cloud provider. The data from the device can be sent over Websocket or MQTT to vCloud Air or any other cloud. This paper provides a secure end-to-end communication path from the IoT device to the cloud by eliminating the intermediary devices. It is possible to establish secure connection directly from these low-resource boards directly to the cloud. |

Woman Up: Advance Your Career by Advocating for Workplace Innovation
Nicole Mason, Omnivantage Business Professionals Inc. Session length: 1 Hour It's time for women in tech and business to stop bending ourselves into pretzels trying to fit into a "man's world." Tech and business is a multi-gender world that still needs to recognize and adapt to this fact. I believe that women need to bend the business world to accommodate the current and future realities of gender diverse workplaces with employees (men and women) who have responsibilities at home, including care-giver demands that cannot be relegated to specific hours late at night and on weekends. To attract and retain top talent, especially women, companies and managers need to rethink workplace structures and become more flexible. This creates an opportunity for workplace innovation. Women in tech are well positioned to drive this innovation and help companies develop flexible workplaces. Companies need to embrace workflex options for all employees if they want a productive, creative, and engaged workforce who will enable them to achieve their revenue and other targets. Instead of leaning in, leaning out, opting out or otherwise giving up or compromising on the work-life balance that is possible, women can advance this conversation with managers and executives. Some women executives are already successfully implementing flexible workplace arrangements with great results for their respective companies' bottom line. Studies show that women make the majority of consumer buying decisions, and that companies with women executives are more profitable. Investors are starting to care about the percentage of women employees at all levels and across all departments within companies. Women are empowered when we find and own our voice and personal style and use it, not change it to be more "engineery" or "geek-like" or (insert male dominated role)-like. Changes are required to accommodate the realities and needs of diversity in the workplace, and change requires agents with persistence and fortitude to make women-friendly, inclusive work environments become the establishment. Let's use our voices to make it so. |

Predictive Statistical Data Analysis for Product Stability and Capability
Pushpalatha K R, Hewlett Packard PPS India Operations Pvt Ltd Session length: 30 minutes ePrint is a service hosted on cloud which allows the user to print from anywhere and anytime once the supported printer is registered to ePrint. Metrics Collection Service (MCS) is responsible for collecting various metrics related to Ink, print data, mobility, usage etc. from printer. However, Data Driven problem solving is an iterative process from the practical arena to the statistical arena and then returning to the practical arena with a conclusion. There is a continuous challenge in understanding the Product Stability and Capability with the metrics data. In this paper, we focus on statistical data analysis to understand Stability and Capability. Such Statistical Analytical solution would help to improve the Product reliability and availability. Efficiency metrics measure the amount of input necessary to achieve a given output. Effectiveness metrics are a direct measure of how well customer expectations are met. |

BIM Technology and Energy Analysis Tools In Redesign Process of Tripolitan Traditional House
Sara Ben Lashihar, Founder of Alashhar for Arts & Architecture Session length: 1 Hour (30 minute talk, 30 minutes Q&A and networking) The Tripolitan House suffers from neglect in the last thirty years. If you visit the Old City of Tripoli, you will notice the destruction of the archeological houses. The Tripolitan House is an ideal dwelling for the Libyan family. It achieved a model of environmental, sustainable, architectural, and cultural perfection. This house abandoned and was replaced with modern designs and patterns. The new designs are not related to Libyan’s culture and not connected to the environment. This disregard is a result of the fascination of Libyan architects with the modern architecture and new technology , which caused gradual fade of the Libyan vernacular architecture. This dilemma made me conclude that one of the possible solutions for it, is by occupying the potentials of technology in the enhancement of the vernacular architecture with regard to its roots and environmental attributes is certainly necessary . Accordingly, I assigned myself for an academic research that serves this approach. A research that employs the technology of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and energy analysis applications in the redesign process of the Tripolitan House. I have started working on this project since 2014. I designed a house located on the west side of Tripoli, and I employed both Autodesk Revit Architecture and Ecotect to work on the drawing details and energy analysis. I cannot say that the mission was entirely successful, but it achieved some of its aspects. |

Why Does Your Data Center Need HyperConverged Infrastructure?
Chittra M, VMware Session time: 1 hour Conventional data centers are now getting replaced or rebuilt with the SDDC model. SDDC stands for Software Defined Data Center where all the elements of data center such as compute, network, and storage are virtualized and available as a service. Different companies have been adopting different ways of going the SDDC model. While converged infrastructures were a good solution; it still had the customers tied up to vendors, were hardware specific, costlier and occupies more space. Hyperconvergence on the other hand provides a single solution which has compute, network and storage packed together. In this paper we will discuss about, 1. What is HyperConvergence? 2. What is HyperConverged Infrastructure & its benefits? 3. Converged vs HyperConverged Infrastructure 4. Which data centers are more suitable to adapt HyperConverged Infrastructure? |
